PowerPoints: |
Topics can be covered in any order but we strongly suggest you go into the Statistics TOC tab and look at Course PowerPoints (or other PowerPoints provided by your professor) and review topics that will be covered in your next class. |
Lectures: |
Next, select "Lecture Excel" or "Lecture Calculator", whichever is appropriate, from the drop-down menu for all topics that will be covered in your next class. |
Textbook: |
For more information and examples, select "Textbook" from the drop-down menu. |
Or . . . |
If you already know a topic you can skip the lecture and textbook and go straight to "Questions". |
Topic Questions: |
Select "Questions" from the drop-down menu that appears when you hover over a topic and answer as many as you like for all topics that will be covered in your next class. The computer provides instant feedback for your answers to Topic questions and Exercise questions. There is an endless supply of topic questions. |
Question Difficulty: |
Topic question difficulty begins at Level 1 and Level number increases as questions increase in difficulty. The number of levels varies from topic to topic. The maximum number of levels is seven for the Probability topic. You must correctly answer 2 questions in a row to go up to the next level. If you get 2 questions wrong in a row you will go down one level.
|
Topic Completion: |
You have to reach the highest level of difficulty for a topic and correctly answer two Topic questions in a row at that level in order for a topic to be considered "complete". An incomplete topic does not stop you from continuing on to the next topic. If you are unable to answer some questions to complete topics that will be covered in your next class, your professor will answer your questions and help you uderstand the material in class. At the end of the semester grades are awarded for completed topics.
|
Chapter Exercises: |
Once Topic questions are complete for all topics in a chapter, answer exercise questions at the end of the chapter. Exercises mix topics together, include more theory and are more verbose so are more complex than Topic questions, which makes Exercises ideal for practice before a test or exam. If you prefer to answer one or two exercise questions after completing each topic, that's fine too. Our site will remember your answers and you are able to go in and out of exercises as often as you wish. Be aware, Exercise results do NOT count toward your final grade.
|
Chapter Completion: |
A chapter is complete when every question in the Exercise for that chapter has been answered correctly. Completed exercises do NOT count toward your final grade, but they help students do better on tests.
|
Tests: |
Tests are usually done on another product such as Blackboard. However, your professor might assign a test in Growing Knowing and there may be a password you will need to enter before you can take the test. Once you complete a test and submit it, the test cannot be re-entered without professor assistance. Tests are graded automatically and test results can be viewed by selecting "Test Results" under "Tools".
|
Grades: |
Your professor will give you marks toward your final grade based on number of topics completed. You will be awarded fun points for completing extra Topic questions for the purpose of determining a high score.
